Schedule: 4:30-5:15 pm: Frank Ruda, "Badiou’s Hölderlin" 5:30-6:30: Kenneth Reinhard, "Alain Badiou's Philosophy of Truth" (via Zoom) Frank Ruda, German philosopher, is a professor of Modern and Contemporary Philosophy at the University of Dundee. He is also a visiting professor at the Institute of Philosophy, Scientific Research Centre in Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Professor at the European Graduate School (EGS). His books include Hegel's Rabble: An Investigation into Hegel's Philosophy of Right (2011), For Badiou: Idealism without Idealism (2015), Abolishing Freedom: A Plea for a Contemporary Use of Fatalism (2016), The Dash - The Other Side of Absolute Knowing (with Rebecca Comay) (2018) and, most recently, Reading Marx (with Agon Hamza and Slavoj Zizek) (2018). Kenneth Reinhard is a philosopher, translator, and literary critic. He is Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature at UCLA and has authored several books and articles, including (with Slavoj Zizek and Eric Santner) The Neighbor: Three Inquiries in Political Theology (U. of Chicago Press, 2005), and (with Julia Reinhard Lupton) After Oedipus: Shakespeare in Psychoanalysis (Cornell UP, 1993), as well as many articles on Freud, Lacan, Levinas, Henry James, Jewish Studies and the Bible. He is also a frequent English translator of Alain Badiou's works, including, most recently, The Immanence of Truths (2022) (with Susan Spitzer).
