Major/Minor/Modified Main Goals

The Comparative Literature Program at Dartmouth College prepares its majors and minors with the following main goals in mind:

To foster informed perspectives on understanding literary and cultural difference in changing global contexts across historical periods.
To encourage and further the students' willingness and ability to study literary and cultural forms across two or more languages.
To help students connect the study of literary and cultural forms with other areas of their study and curiosity, in line with the College's liberal arts mission.
To prepare the students to understand and critique the aesthetic, linguistic, material, social, and information-technological constraints and conditions under which literature and other cultural forms emerge.
